According to The Sun, Arsenal are keen on bringing Dominic Calvert-Lewin to the Emirates Stadium, and while that’s an exciting prospect for the Gunners, it’s tough to see the striker making that move.

Indeed, while Arsenal undoubtedly have the financial might to get Calvert-Lewin out of Everton, it’s tough to see how Edu would go about convincing the centre-forward to come to north London.

Just look at Calvert-Lewin’s current situation. He’s 24 years old and is the star man in an Everton team that have lost just one league game this season.

Of course, it’s early days, but the Toffees look fantastic under Rafa Benitez and you have to say that the Merseyside club are better-placed than Arsenal to taste success in the near future.

Not only that, Calvert-Lewin is almost guaranteed to start every single week at Goodison Park, but at Arsenal, he’d be competing with club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a spot in the team while the likes of Folarin Balogun would also be breathing down his neck.

We’re not saying that Calvert-Lewin should stay at Everton for the rest of his career either. After all, this is a striker who was once described as being ‘like Cristiano Ronaldo’, so he’s certainly good enough to play for a top club, but right now, Arsenal aren’t one of those teams.

Realistically, Calvert-Lewin could play for a team like Manchester City, Chelsea or Manchester United one day, three teams that would almost guarantee him the chance to play in the Champions League one day, but with Arsenal currently sat in 11th in the table after back to back 8th-placed finishes, it’s hard to see the north London club’s route back to European football’s premier competition.

The 24-year-old would be foolish to swap Everton for Arsenal right now. The Toffees are better-placed to push for a top-six place and he’s good enough to join a better side in the not so distant future.
