The Larkins is ITV’s newest adaptation of H. E. Bates’s The Darling Buds of May.

Starring Bradley Walsh as Sidney ‘Pop’ Larkin, the comedy-drama brings together an eclectic mix of characters from across the Kent village where the series takes place.

The Larkins release date and plot

The Larkins arrived on ITV on Sunday, October 10th, 2021.

Based on the H. E. Bates novel The Darling Buds of May, The Larkins tells the story of Kent-based wheeler-dealer Pop Larkin and his ever-growing family.

Set in the late 1950s, The Larkins follows the titular family on their summertime adventures but matters take a complicated turn when Cedric ‘Charley’ Charlton arrives from the tax office to inspect Pop’s financial affairs.


Who plays the policeman in The Larkins?

Taking on the role of PC Harness in episode 1 of The Larkins is Barney Walsh, the son of Bradley Walsh.

PC Harness makes a brief appearance in the opening episode when Mariette and Primrose ask him about the whereabouts of the travelling funfair as Primrose has taken a liking to one of the young men who works there.

The fresh-faced police officer is a little apprehensive about helping the girls at first but does eventually point the pair in the right direction.


Meet Barney Walsh

Born on December 2nd, 1997, Barney Walsh is the son of The Larkins star, Bradley Walsh.

Barney has followed in his father’s footsteps in becoming an actor and TV star, making his on-screen acting debut in 2013 on a series 7 episode of Law & Order: UK, in which his father also appeared.

Since then, Barney Walsh has gone on to appear in several acting roles with appearances coming in Doctors, Indulgence and Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Aside from his burgeoning acting career, Barney Walsh is arguably best known for appearing alongside his father in the travel series Breaking Dad where the duo have explored several countries across Europe as well as the US.
