Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Newcastle need to have Antonio Conte at the top of their list to replace Steve Bruce, as he told his own YouTube channel.

Even though Bruce is still in the Newcastle dugout, the signs suggest that it won’t be too long before he is sacked.

Names, left, right and centre have been touted to take that big-money managerial hotseat, with the club’s new owners hoping to lure a big-name towards their direction.

Conte left Inter Milan in the summer, after he helped the Italian giants win the Serie A title last season.

Not forgetting, that he also won the Premier League title and the FA Cup in Chelsea colours.

Ferdinand thinks Newcastle need to test the waters with Conte and try to lure him towards their direction.

“People that are available now,” said Ferdinand. “Conte has to be up there on your lists. Sometimes the money talks, even with some of these players.

“This club have the finances to throw them types of money around. Them are the conversations they are going to have.

“Or, are they going to say ‘no, we aren’t going to be taken for idiots. We’re not going to overpay and do this our way’.

“Can you get him? Push your luck.”

Conte is a lot better than the names suggested, but will his style of play and methods suit the Magpies?

He isn’t a long-term manager, nor does he play attacking football, like the entertainers of the 90’s.

Plus, he prefers pushing for older players, rather than young and up and coming stars, his spells at Inter and Chelsea prove that.

But is this a case of him being a high-quality title-winning manager and Newcastle fans not caring about the style, but just wanting to bring in a proven performer, who would make a statement if they snapped him up.
