Leicester City fans have reacted on Twitter to the rumours that Newcastle have targeted Brendan Rodgers as a possible replacement for Steve Bruce.
It has been party-mode in Newcastle since Thursday, when Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) took control of the North East giants from Mike Ashley.
With every ownership change, comes the obvious talk about who could replace the man in the dugout.
The Northern Echo has claimed that Rodgers could be one of those men, but the Foxes will turn down any approach for the former Liverpool boss.
Leicester City fans have provided a mixed reaction to this rumour, with Rodgers helping the Midlands side win the FA Cup last season.
For a number of campaigns, they have just finished outside of the Champions League places, as the club just can’t get over that dotted line to compete with the best of the best.
Bringing in Rodgers would be a statement of intent from Newcastle, and in truth, if they don’t do it by bringing in the Northern Irishman then they will do it with somebody else.
Some may question why Rodgers would swap a team in Europe for one that’s not even competing in it and, more than likely, won’t be next season.
But it’s the project that those in the St James’ Park boardroom have to sell and it’s one hell of a project for whoever replaces Bruce.
One thing is for sure, Rodgers has the style of play, character and experience to elevate this Newcastle side.
And, as he proved when he was at Celtic, he will walk out of that door midway through the season.
