Newcastle United are interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans having finally been taken over by their Saudi-led consortium.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Newcastle’s new owners are looking to land Tielemans and other player of his calibre.
Newcastle’s transfer plans are in the early stages, but Tielemans appears to be one player on the initial wish list.
Tielemans has just over 18 months left on his contract. If he stays with Leicester until next summer, he would be in the final year of his deal.
That would leave Leicester vulnerable to losing Tielemans for nothing. Newcastle may now sense an opportunity, with a cut-price bid possibly in mind.
Newcastle would surely face competition for Tielemans
Tielemans, 24, is one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League and has impressed with Leicester.
The Belgian has racked up 18 goals and 21 assists in 119 games for the Foxes, bouncing back after a tough spell at Monaco.
Tielemans would be a huge addition for Newcastle, immediately becoming their best midfielder.
Yet The Telegraph reported last summer that Jurgen Klopp also wanted Tielemans. Liverpool thought he was too expensive though, so no deal was done.
Fabrizio Romano has since added that Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona also want to sign Tielemans.
Newcastle could face a major battle for the midfielder praised as ‘top class’ by Pep Guardiola, but these are the clubs Newcastle are now looking to challenge in the transfer market.
