Newcastle United are set to focus their transfer strategy on signing ‘tried and tested’ Premier League players amid strong links to James Tarkowski.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that Newcastle’s new owners are already making plans for upcoming transfer windows.
The Saudi-led consortium secured Newcastle on Thursday, sparking jubilant scenes at St James’ Park.
It’s now stated that Newcastle will target experienced Premier League players whose contracts are running down.
Fans are hoping for big signings like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, but the first additions could be a little more modest.
Newcastle could move for Tarkowski
A number of players fit the mould – Alexandre Lacazette Jesse Lingard, Eddie Nketiah, Divock Origi, Pascal Gross – all out of contract at the end of the season.
Another player set to become a free agent next summer is Burnley defender James Tarkowski, and he is likely to leave Turf Moor for nothing.

The Telegraph have since added that Tarkowski is likely to become one of Newcastle’s first signings under the new regime.
Maybe that means a cut-price January deal, maybe that means a free signing in the summer. Either way, Tarkowski would provide an instant upgrade on many Newcastle defenders.
The 28-year-old has been branded a ‘top player’ by Sean Dyche, and would mark a solid if unspectacular start to this exciting new era.
