‘Ted Lasso’ character Jamie Tartt is based on Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea players.
That’s according to English actor Phil Dunster, who plays the character of Tartt in the sports comedy-drama currently streaming on Apple TV+.
Regular viewers of Ted Lasso must have been wondering, ‘Which footballer is Jamie Tartt based on?’
And now we know.
The AFC Richmond striker’s character is based on a number of players, including Cristiano Ronaldo.
Dunster appeared on the Soccer AM show on Sky Sports Premier League this morning.
The 29-year-old was discussing his character Tartt, and the Englishman said that it is based on a number of players, including City duo Silva and Grealish, United superstar Ronaldo and Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.
Jimmy Bullard said to Dunster on the show (10:37am, October 9, 2021): “You play Jamie Tartt, rock ’n’ roll slick character, a bit like me. I can see a little bit of Grealish in it as well. Is it based on anyone?”
Dunster responded: “Yeah, I watch football pretty much every day, so I have taken a whole bunch of characters, Jimmy Bullard and obviously Jack Grealish, and there’s a lot of young players like Mason Mount.
“He is a flair player, Jamie Tatt, so there’s a bit of Bernardo Silva, a bit of Cristiano Ronaldo.”
The character Tartt is from Manchester who played for AFC Richmond on loan from Manchester City before being recalled by his parent club.
The striker eventually returned to AFC Richmond and helped them win promotion back to the Premier League.
Ted Lasso has been critically acclaimed and is very popular among viewers.
