Shane Dawson is back and not everyone is happy about it. The YouTuber shared a video on his official channel today (October 7), nearly two years after he was embroiled in a series of controversies. So, why was Shane Dawson cancelled? What did the influencer do?

The content creator shared a video titled “The Haunting of Shane Dawson”, in which he has spoken in length about several things, including his infamous cancellations.

Why was Shane Dawson cancelled?

Shane was one of the most influential YouTubers until his problematic actions from the past re-surfaced. He was slammed for making inappropriate gestures at a poster of Willow Smith form when she was 11 in one of his old videos.

He was even called out by Jada Smith as she wrote on Twitter, “To Shane Dawson, I’m done with the excuses.

That wasn’t the end of it. The YouTuber got entangled in more controversies as people started pointing at the racist, blackface and pedophilia jokes that he casually made. He later apologized and said he had deleted all of his old content.

Shane was also accused of manipulation by influencers Kameron Lester and Tati Westbrook, as they decided to cut ties with him.

While he tried to explain his side of the story in an Instagram Livestream by accusing Tati of “fake crying”, his justification only made things worse as it added more fuel to the fire.

The other well-known scandal surrounding Shane involved his cat. He made jokes about allegedly sexually assaulting his pet, but denied it later.

After staying away from the limelight for almost a year, the YouTuber announced in June 2021 that he would be returning to the platform.

YouTuber addresses his past actions in the latest video

In his latest YouTube video, which has been viewed more than 650,000 times in less than four hours, Shane says he is “embarrassed over a lot of stuff” he did in the past.

“All of that. Awful. Then it snowballed. If I talk about it how I really feel, people are going to say ‘oh you’re trying to get sympathy.’ I feel like people are going to hate me no matter what, and I kind of just have to accept it,”  he said.

He added further, “I think part of me was upset because I made so much growth, and now I’m being cancelled over things in the past, and that’s not me anymore…it made me realize that I can’t focus on what other people think of me…I learned a lot. I’m so happy it happened.”

Shane revealed he has moved into a new home in Colorado with his husband, Ryan Adams, after leaving Los Angeles.

Twitter isn’t happy about Shane Dawson’s return

Even though Shane has tried apologizing for his past yet again and assured that he has changed, Twitter users, who had previously cancelled him, don’t seem to want him back in the business.

One wrote, “Why can’t we allow people to grow and learn from their mistakes!?” Shane Dawson has had all the time in the world to grow and learn. The problem is, he never does. He treats his past self like another person which is why he doesn’t feel responsible for his disgusting actions”

Another added, “THE HAUNTING OF SHANE DAWSON ?? MORE LIKE SHANE DAWSON HAUNTING US”

One tweeted, “shane dawson uploaded a new video? like… like nothing happened?”
