According to Calciomercato, Cristiano Ronaldo has demanded the signing of Federico Chiesa, who is said to be a target for Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, back in July, La Repubblica revealed that Jürgen Klopp’s side had made a bid worth £86m for Chiesa.

Despite that, the 33-cap Italy international stayed with Juventus, where he has enjoyed a good season so far away from Ronaldo’s shadow.

Chiesa has scored two goals in seven appearances, while also providing one assist.

Now, Ronaldo wants Manchester United to sign the 23-year-old.

Calciomercato state that Chiesa is ‘heavily sponsored’ by the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who shared a dressing room at Juventus.

The forward’s agent, Ivan Reggiani, told Calciomercato he believes his client could move for a fee in the region of €120m – €130m (£102m – £110m).

Should Liverpool push hard to sign Federico Chiesa?

In our view, Chiesa should be Klopp’s No.1 target – he is an ideal long-term replacement for Sadio Mane.

The Senegal international is now 29, six years older than Chiesa, and is showing signs that he may be declining.

Both forwards are right footed, but line up on the left so they can cut inside.

Chiesa scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists last season, while also scoring two goals as Italy won EURO 2020.

He’s going to cost a lot of money – the Reds may even need to smash their transfer record to sign him.

However, Chiesa’s current ability, and what he could develop into, make it worth doing for Michael Edwards.

Whatever happens, Liverpool cannot allow Manchester United to get their hands on him.
