
Newcastle United could reignite their interest in Barcelona attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho, according to Sport.
What’s the story?
Sport have reported that the new Newcastle owners wanted to sign Coutinho from Barcelona in the summer of 2021.
They even made contact with the encourage of the former Liverpool star.
However, the transfer could not go through because the takeover did not happen.
Now that the takeover has finally happened this week, according to the report, Newcastle could reignite their interest in the 29-year-old, who can also play as a winger and was described as a “phenomenal” who has “magical powers” by Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino in FIFA in October 2020.
An investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and also comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, have taken over Newcastle from Mike Ashley.

Blockbuster signing
The report in Sport claims that Barcelona are willing to sell Coutinho in the January transfer window.
It has been further added that the 29-year-old former Liverpool star has always wanted to return to the Premier League.
Newcastle are an established club in the Premier League and will now be entering a new era.
It could be very tempting for Coutinho to join a club that are planning for a new and ambitious project.
Coutinho scored 41 goals in 152 appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool.
