Reported interest from Premier League giants Liverpool has come as no surprise to the agent of Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko but, speaking to AS, he suggested that a transfer will not happen in 2022.

For the second time in the space of just a few weeks, Jurgen Klopp’s rampant Reds have been linked with a Red Bull-guzzling centre-forward who made his name during a prolific loan spell at FC Liefering.

Although while Karim Adeyemi is quickly becoming a household name – match-winning performances in the Champions League and a goal on your Germany debut will do that to your reputation – Sesko remains something of an unknown quantity outside of Austrian football.

But interest from a who’s who of European giants, including Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool, should tell you all you need to know about Sesko’s talent and potential.

Will Liverpool beat Man City and Real Madrid to Benjamin Sesko?

“I think it’s normal for the best clubs to follow the best talents and I think he is one of the best talents in the world at his age,” said Elvis Basanovic of the five-time Slovenia international.

Sesko’s agent believes that staying at Salzburg would be the right decision, however, reminding his baby-faced client that the grass – no matter how lush and luxurious it may look from afar – is not necessarily as green as it may appear.

“But, as I said before, he is just beginning his career and we are going step by step,” Basanovic added.

“Talent is not enough to have a great career and, right now, he has everything he needs to develop at Red Bull Salzburg. I think he will stay here for the next two or three years.

“We don’t need to rush through anything.”

With his rangy 6ft 4ins frame and his ravenous appetite for goals, Sesko has, somewhat inevitably, been compared to another striker who honed his talents in the esteemed Salzburg finishing school.

“I don’t like when people compare Sesko to Erling Haaland,” said Basanovic. “Each player is different and unique. He has his own way of playing, his own career goals, and he’s sure to have a different career too.

“I think he is a very complete striker who can score with his head, with his right foot, with his left foot, from inside the area, from distance, after dribbling or completing a team move.

“He is very fast, in some games he reaches a speed of over 36km/h (22.3 mp/h) which makes him one of the fastest forwards in the world.”
