Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Douglas Luiz had replaced Casemiro in the Brazil squad.

What’s the story?

Well, this is awful news for Aston Villa.

Casemiro has withdrawn due to an infected wisdom tooth, meaning Douglas Luiz is now very likely to miss the clash against Wolves.

Brazil take on Uruguay in the early hours of Friday morning on October 15th, with Aston Villa kicking off against Wolves at 3pm Saturday 17th.

It’s practically impossible for Douglas Luiz to feature at Villa Park, although it presents a wonderful opportunity for Marvelous Nakamba to see some action.

Nevertheless, Dean Smith will be disappointed to lose his midfield maestro, as it perhaps wasn’t an absence he was expecting to deal with.

If the Villans are to keep growing as a club, they must deal with problems like this.

The top players all want to play for their countries, and it’s actually a positive that the £32,873-a-week man is getting called up.

If Tite was ignoring him, then it’s entirely possible that the former Manchester City man looks for a move away in order to gain international recognition.

In our view, that’s far worse than losing him for just one game.

With big profiles like Danny Ings and Leon Bailey also at Villa Park, this sort of thing is going to happen more often.

Amid the glitz and glamour of Premier League life, this is one negative, of course.

For now, let’s see what the Aston Villa fans on Twitter have been saying about Douglas Luiz…
