According to CalcioNapoli24, Tottenham are set to wrap up the signing of Nahitan Nandez in January, a player who Arsenal are also interested in.
What’s the story?
Well, the news comes after Nandez’s agent, Pablo Bentancur, revealed that his client has been given permission to leave this winter.
La Nuovo Sardegna claimed that Tottenham submitted a bid for the Uruguay international in August, although nothing came of it.
Nandez was particularly unhappy about being denied a move, and Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini has now promised to grant him his desired exit.
Shortly after Bentancur’s comments, CalcioNapoli24‘s report has emerged.
The timing is definitely interesting.
CalcioNapoli24 are claiming that Fabio Paratici is ready to seal the deal, making a mockery of Napoli and Inter Milan in the process as they’ve been following Nandez for a long time.
Tottenham could also embarrass Arsenal
According to La Repubblica, Nandez rejected Arsenal in the summer as he wanted to wait for more attractive offers.
That in itself is quite embarrassing for a club of Arsenal’s size, but it would be even more humiliating if the midfielder then joined Spurs.
If that happened, Nandez would effectively be showing that he thinks Tottenham are on the up, whereas the Gunners are going the other way.
Nevertheless, at least he’d be an instant Tottenham hero, even before a ball is kicked!
As revealed by Bentancur, Nandez has a €36m (£31m) release clause in his contract with the Serie A outfit.
However, his agent believes Commisso could let the midfielder leave for less than that sum.
Whatever the fee, it sounds like Tottenham are close to wrapping this deal up, if CalcioNapoli24 are to be trusted.
