Celtic didn’t land a clear first-choice left back over the summer, and Greg Taylor could now end up landing a new contract.

The Bhoys did sign Liam Scales from Shamrock Rovers, but could end up being a central defender rather than a left back.

Boli Bolingoli is available for selection, but doesn’t look like being picked often. Adam Montgomery has potential, but he is only 19.

Fans would no doubt love to see another left back arrive soon, but Celtic may instead choose to keep what they have in Greg Taylor.

Signed from Kilmarnock in the summer of 2019, Taylor ended up replacing Kieran Tierney at Parkhead.

The 23-year-old has played just over 60 games for Celtic but hasn’t really managed to play to anywhere near Tierney’s level.

That was always going to be hard anyway, and the Daily Record now claim that Taylor is in talks over a new deal with Celtic.

Taylor is in line for a pay rise at Parkhead, whilst committing his future to the club beyond the current 2023 expiration of his deal.

Celtic fans have been taking to Twitter to react, and it’s fair to say they don’t seem all that pleased.

Taylor seems to be the new scapegoat or whipping boy for some Celtic fans, with many believing he just isn’t good enough.

Many think that Taylor just isn’t Celtic quality and the Bhoys can’t progress if players like him are being built around.

Maybe he ends up just being cover for Montgomery, but some believe he slows play down far too much and can’t believe he was effectively signed to replace Tierney.
