Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on William Saliba and how Arsenal view the youngster.
The Frenchman joined the Gunners back in 2019, but he’s still yet to make his full debut for Mikel Arteta’s side, being loaned out three times since his arrival in north London.
However, despite Arsenal’s refusal to give him a first-team chance, Romano is led to believe that the club trust Saliba to be a future star, claiming that they’re very happy with his progress.
What’s been said?
Romano shared what he knows about Saliba.
“Arsenal are following the progress of William Saliba with Marseille, he’s a player they trust, a player they really trust with a long-term contract. Many Arsenal fans were furious when Arsenal loaned him out. They have a project with this boy, they want him to play 38 matches as a starter. They are following his progress, they are very happy with him and they told him several weeks ago that they were trust him 100% for the future of Arsenal,” Romano said.

Centre-backs of the future
If Arsenal genuinely believe that Saliba can be a future star then their centre-back spot looks set to be very strong in the future.
Ben White has just arrived for £50m and he still has a lot of room to grow, while Gabriel Magalhaes is still a young player who can develop.
Add Saliba to that mix and you have a very exciting long-term vision for the defence at Arsenal.
Fingers crossed all three defenders are able to fulfil their potential.
