Tottenham Hotspur are considering rivalling Juventus in a bid to sign Mauro Icardi next summer, as the striker’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is questionable, per Calciomercato.

Icardi is considering leaving the Parc des Princes at the end of the season after only cutting a bit-part figure. Mauricio Pochettino has only started the Argentine five times over his 10 appearances so far this term. But the striker has opened the action just once since August.

Pochettino also left Icardi on the bench as PSG beat Manchester City 2-0 in the Champions League. Seeing that the 28-year-old ended September having played 164 of a possible 540-minutes in all competitions. He also played just 14-minutes at Stade Rennes on Sunday.

Icardi is growing frustrated at his bit-part presence in Pochettino’s plans and could consider leaving Paris Saint-Germain, with Tottenham and Juventus both interested in his services. Despite his limited minutes, the eight-cap centre-forward has scored three goals this term.

His difficulties to establish himself under Pochettino have continued from last season, too. The former Tottenham manager only started Icardi in 15 of his 34 fixtures after replacing Thomas Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain. Although injuries also kept him out of seven games.

Yet Icardi ended the season with 11 goals and six assists under Pochettino and two goals in five under Tuchel. Now, Icardi’s performances under his compatriot at PSG this season may determine where the striker plays next term.

Should Tottenham target Paris Saint-Germain striker Icardi next summer?

Much can change between now and the summer, but Tottenham could be the answer to Icardi’s Paris Saint-Germain nightmare. However, Spurs Managing Director Fabio Paratici may face strong competition from his former club, Juventus, to strike any deal.

Tottenham will want to bolster their attacking options in the summer market to not rely as heavily on Harry Kane. Spurs will also want to take some of the pressure off of Heung-Min Son, who has stepped up in the Premier League this term amid Kane struggling for form.

Juventus have not been flush with goals since Massimiliano Allegri’s return to Turin, either. Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala are the Bianconeri’s joint-top goalscorers with three in all competitions. But the pair, plus Manuel Locatelli, have only scored twice in Serie A so far.
