Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso has said that Dusan Vlahovic won’t be signing a new contract, amid interest from Liverpool and Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, the 10-cap Serbia international has become one of the most sought after strikers in Europe, after scoring 21 goals last season.

Vlahovic’s form led to Calciomercato revealing that Tottenham will try to sign the 21-year-old in 2022.

Tuttosport added that Liverpool are interested in bringing him to Anfield.

Now, with Vlahovic’s deal expiring in June 2023, Commisso has basically confirmed he will be sold in 2022 as he refuses to sign a new deal.

Fabrizio Romano quotes Fiorentina’s President as saying: “Vlahovic has not accepted our huge contract extension proposal. We’ve been trying for months, but it’s over”.

As aforesaid, we now expect Vlahovic to leave in 2022 – it’s either that, or he goes for free in 2023, something we can’t foresee Fiorentina allowing.

What can Dusan Vlahovic offer to Liverpool or Tottenham?

In our view, whoever lands the prolific wonderkid could be getting a future Ballon d’Or winner.

There are shades of Erling Håland in the way Vlahovic plays the game, and the Serbian even feels he’s on a similar level to the Norwegian superstar.

So far this season, the Fiorentina No.9 has scored six goals in eight appearances, while also providing one assist.

Fiorentina wanted €70m (£60m) for their talisman, so it will be interesting to see if that figure has changed following the update on his contract situation.

Tall, quick and physical, Vlahovic seems tailor-made for English football.

Liverpool could use an out-and-out No.9 to offer something different to Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota.

In Tottenham’s case, Nuno Espirito Santo needs to find competition – or an outright replacement, should he leave – for Harry Kane.

Keep an eye on this saga, which has just become a lot more interesting following Commisso’s comments.
