Everybody loves Harry Styles. The singer rose to fame as the One Direction heartthrob after the band gained third place in the popular British talent show The X Factor.
After selling 50 million albums worldwide and touring the globe, the members of One Direction unfortunately parted ways in January 2016 leaving teenagers all over the world in despair.
But the sadness wasn’t to last, because each member of One Direction went on to lead an incredible solo singing career, the best of them all being Harry Styles.
His single Watermelon Sugar has been hugely popular but fans have been left wondering one thing – what does Watermelon Sugar actually mean?
The Watermelon Sugar music video
He posted a photo of himself with two girls on a beach, all holding slices of Watermelon, alongside the caption: “DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. Practice social distancing. Watermelon Sugar Video Out Now.”
Fans went crazy for the video which features Harry Styles in a floral shirt sitting on a beach in Malibu, and it gained 8 million views in just 15 hours!
What does Watermelon Sugar mean?
According to a YouTube video posted from Harry’s concert on October 1st, 2021 in Nashville, the singer finally revealed the NSFW meaning behind his song.
“It doesn’t really matter what it’s about,” he first said before explaining:
“It’s about…the sweetness of life. It’s also about the female orgasm but that’s totally different, it’s not really relevant.”
In the lyrics, Harry says that Watermelon Sugar, “tastes like strawberries on a summer evenin'”, “and it sounds just like a song”. He then continues to say “I want more berries and that summer feelin'”, “it’s so wonderful and warm.”
Then later in the song he talks about “wanting to taste it” and “getting washed away in you”.
Many people have previously suggested the song is related to oral s*x. And it would make sense as the video sees Harry touching and licking a slice of Watermelon very seductively.
Watermelon Sugar in popular culture
The term has since became a popular s*xual slang term in modern culture, much like WAP from Cardi B.
There have been countless TikTok videos containing the Watermelon Sugar while parents across the country have been searching for the meaning when it pops up on TV.
Just like on day-time British TV show Lorraine, where a guest asked a bemused host if they knew what the term supposedly stood for.
The release of the music video sent fans on Twitter wild at the time, as they rekindled their love for the song that was released last year.
Fans have said that everything about the video is perfect, from the Malibu beach setting, to the aesthetics, and Harry Styles’ good looks.
One fan even compared him to Leonardo DiCaprio, as he appeared to be wearing a similar shirt. Harry has certainly become a fashion icon!
