Users who want to get onto Facebook are met with a message which reads: “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”

WhatsApp users were also currently unable to send messages.

Report tracking website DownDetector showed that over 30,000 people reported an Instagram outage since 4:49pm today.

However, Instagram Comms provided an update saying the app is back up and running again.

They tweeted, “Instagram is slowly but surely coming back now – thanks for dealing with us and sorry for the wait!”

We are also yet to be met with a reason for the outage.

What does 5xx server error mean?

Some Instagram users have been met with a message which states: “5xx server error.”

This means that the server is unable to fulfil your request, essentially meaning that the problems which are happening to your app were caused by the server.
