Michael Dawson has claimed that ‘everybody’ thinks that Harry Kane is ‘not bothered’ when playing for Tottenham, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (02/10/21 at 1:20 pm)

It has been a difficult start to the season for Tottenham and their star striker, who is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League.

What doesn’t help matters for Kane is his and the team’s abject performance during the North London derby last time out.

But the England captain did score a hat-trick in midweek, as Spurs recorded a comfortable win against NS Mura in the Europa Conference League.

Of course, the real test will come against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon because Mura aren’t even League Two standard, but it’s a confidence-booster, nonetheless.

Dawson defended Kane’s actions in recent times and claimed that he does care for the badge.

“It’s nice for Harry to get three goals, but that was no test,” said Dawson. “What went on in the summer, is it affecting him? No, these things happen, at times.

“He’s not performing. He gave the ball away (v Arsenal) and everybody says ‘he’s not bothered’. You should react if you give it away.

“But if he didn’t care then he wouldn’t have done that (tracked back). But he can miss chances, but that can happen sometimes.”

It’s a real struggle for Spurs of late and those opening three wins seem a distance away now.

But beating an in-form Aston Villa side on home soil today will start to help those seriously under pressure in North London.

One of them includes the manager. If Spurs suffer a defeat then it will be interesting to see how the supporters reacted.

But the perfect afternoon for the fans will be, Spurs winning, Kane finding the back of the net and securing a clean sheet along the way.

That is yet to happen in 2021/22, but it would be a morale-boosting way to go into the international break.
