Midsomer Murders has graced our screens for over 20 years and in that time countless actors have come and gone.

Midsomer Murders season 22, episode 3 release date and plot

Episode 3 of Midsomer Murders’ 22nd series arrives on ITV on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021.

Titled Happy Families, the episode centres on the Karras family who have created beautifully handcrafted board games for decades and are gathering for a murder mystery games weekend.

However, the family’s fun is interrupted when a killer strikes for real, killing family patriarch Victor Karras who was celebrating his 70th birthday.

Barnaby and Winter are called to investigate but when a storm hits the Karras’s island, it leaves the two detectives stranded with the remaining members of the family… and the killer.

Guest star spotlight

Stuart Milligan as Victor Karras

Stuart Milligan takes on the role of Victor Karras in Happy Families, the Karras family patriarch and the boss of the eponymous games company.

Boston-born Milligan began acting way back in 1979 and has appeared in over 100 films and TV shows since then including Wonder Woman 1984, Jonathan Creek and Doctor Who where he cameoed as Richard Nixon in several Matt Smith episodes.

Stuart has also appeared on Midsomer Murders before, with his last appearance coming in the 2006 episode Country Matters.

Rachael Stirling as Eleanor Karras

Rachael Stirling stars in episode 3 as Eleanor Karras, the pregnant wife of Stuart. It’s her idea to host the murder mystery weekend.

After first appearing on our screens in 1998, TV fans will likely know Rachael best from her roles in Snow White and the Huntsman, The Young Victoria, BBC series Life, ITV’s Wild Bill, The Detectorists as well as The Bletchley Circle.

Paul Bazely as Paul Matheson

Paul Bazely wouldn’t have had a hard time remembering his character’s name as he plays Paul Matheson, Victor’s brother-in-law, whom he recently fired as his accountant.

TV fans will know Paul best from his roles in Benidorm, Feel Good, The Sister as well as Black Mirror and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Vanessa Emme as Danni Karras

Vanessa Emme takes on the role of Danni Karras, Victor’s greedy daughter who is desperate for her father to step down from the struggling company.

After making her debut in 2008, Vanessa has gone on to appear in almost 20 acting roles to date with recent appearances coming in Three Families and Dublin Murders on the BBC and Manhunt and Little Boy Blue on ITV.

Caroline Quentin as Helen Wells

Caroline Quentin will be a familiar face to many as she appears as Helen Wells in Happy Families.

After making her acting debut in 1980, Caroline’s biggest roles have come in Jonathan Creek, Life Begins, Blue Murder and more recently she’s appeared in Doc Martin, Dickensian and Netflix’s Bridgerton.

Adrian Edmondson as Hugo Welles

And finally, we come to Adrian ‘Ade’ Edmondson who will be well known to fans in the comedy world.

As well as taking on the role of Hugo Welles, Ade is best known for his role as Eddie alongside Rik Mayall in Bottom.

Beyond that, Ade Edmondson has also appeared in EastEnders, Bancroft, War & Peace, Holby City and even Star Wars: The Last Jedi throughout his distinguished career.
