Nigel Martyn has said on BBC Radio Leeds (5:17pm, October 2, 2021) that Leeds United star Rodrigo can be frustrating to watch.

The former Leeds goalkeeper made the comments about Rodrigo after watching him in action against Watford today.

Leeds won 1-0 against Watford at Elland Road in the Premier League.

Rodrigo started upfront in the absence of the injured Patrick Bamford.

Martyn was on co-commentary duty for the match on BBC Radio Leeds.

The BBC pundit said when asked about Rodrigo and Bamford: “He’s a funny one. At times he looks unplayable. On other times, he is the most frustrating player to watch.

“As a striker, he has got to hold the ball up really really well and eventually you are judged on your goals, and he needs to make sure he starts knocking the ball in if he is actually starting the game as a striker.”

Rodrigo is a very versatile player who can operate as a striker, out wide or in the number 10 role.

When Bamford is fit an available, the England international plays as the striker, with Rodrigo behind him in the hole.

The Spain international does need to be more consistent, but he is actually best deployed as the creator-in-chief.

The Leeds no.19 has yet to score or provide an assist in the Premier League this season.

Rodrigo scored seven goals and gave two assists in 14 league starts last season.

Against Watford today, Rodrigo took two shots which were not on target, played four key passes, had a pass accuracy of 50%, won one header, took 32 touches, made one clearance, and put in one cross.
