Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that reported Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur target Lorenzo Pellegrini has no release clause in his new contract.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Pellegrini, linked with Tottenham and Liverpool in the summer transfer window, has had his €30 million (£25.68m) release clause removed from his new deal.
The 25-year-old Italy international midfielder has put pen to paper on a new deal at Roma that will stay him stay at the Italia club until 2026.
Calciomercato reported in June that Tottenham and Liverpool wanted to sign the midfielder from Roma in the summer transfer window.
Having no release in his contract means that Tottenham and Liverpool will find it harder to sign Pellegrini in the January transfer window or next summer – if they want to.
Roma can now set their own price for the Italian.
And it is certainly going to be more than €30 million (£25.68m).
With Roma aiming to finish in the Serie A top four under head coach Jose Mourinho, it is unlikely that they will sell their star player in the middle of the season.
