Theirry Henry has stated that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang copying his iconic celebration during Arsenal’s North London derby win has ‘stayed in the history’, as he told Sky Sports News (27/09/21 at 5:30 pm).
When Aubameyang netted Arsenal’s second goal of the game against their bitter rivals, he celebrated by doing the knee slide, in homage to Henry, who was in attendance at the Emirates Stadium.
Henry famously did that celebration when he scored his solo goal against Tottenham at Highbury in 2002 – and he now has a statue outside of the Emirates with him in that pose.
Mikel Arteta’s side ran riot against their neighbours on Sunday and Henry, who was in attendance, would have loved everything he saw – apart from Tottenham’s goal, of course.
But when Henry was asked to share his opinion on that celebration, he admitted that when he did it, he was being ‘stupid’.
“That was me being stupid,” said Henry. “But it stayed in the history. It’s the derby, you are allowed to. It’s the North London derby celebration. Smith Rowe also did it and Bukayo Saka.
“I think, on the day, at your ground, you can do it. But, away from home, it’s a bit more tricky.”

Aubameyang found life tough last season, but during this campaign, things are starting to look a lot better for the £56 million player (BBC Sport).
When the Gabon superstar isn’t being fed the service then it can feel like Arsenal are playing with ten men.
But if those forward balls are being played through and over the Arsenal man then he is deadly in front of goal.
Usually, Aubameyang is someone who competes with the best of the best in the race for the Golden Boot.
And with that competition going up another level this season, with the return of Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku, then many players will be vying for that number one spot.
