Manchester United are interested in signing Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United in the summer of 2022, according to The Daily Star.
What’s the story?
It has been reported that United have decided to end their pursuit of West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice and are focusing on his England international teammate and Leeds star Phillips instead.
West Ham want £90 million for Rice, who can also play as a central defender.
The Red Devils are not willing to pay that much for the West Ham star and are instead looking into the possibility of signing Phillips from Leeds next summer.
Could a transfer happen?
Leeds and the Red Devils are bitter rivals, although in the past, players such as Eric Cantona, Alan Smith and Rio Ferdinand have moved from Elland Road to Old Trafford.
Phillips is a Leeds fan, and there is no way that he will force a move to United.
Therefore, any potential transfer will depend on what Leeds want to do.
Leeds are a stable club and are not in desperate need of cash, and it is unlikely that club owner Andrea Radrizzani will entertain offers for Phillips.
Unless, of course, the offers are too tempting to resist.
Because, let’s face it, every player has his price.
