Darren Bent has suggested on talkSPORT that Harry Kane’s mind is elsewhere after failing to leave Tottenham this summer, but Ally McCoist backs the striker to rediscover his form.
Reports by Sky Sports surfaced in May that Kane had informed Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy he wanted to leave. Thus began a summer-long tussle as the north London side fought to keep hold of their 28-year-old talisman.
Levy eventually won the fight and kept Kane at Tottenham, but he has since struggled for consistent form. The £200k-a-week striker is yet to score after five Premier League outings. Netting just three in eight in all, after a brace in the Europa Conference League qualifiers.

Bent also notes how Kane has cut a desolate figure on the pitch throughout Tottenham’s opening top-flight fixtures. Often struggling to impact proceedings from the top of the pitch and dropping deeper and deeper searching for the ball.
McCoist has no doubt over Kane commitment
McCoist has no doubt that Kane is still fully committed to performing for Tottenham after attempting to leave this summer. Instead, the former Rangers boss believes it is just a matter of time before the attacker finds his feet again.
“The drop in form in terms of results has coincided with Harry coming back into the team, and Harry is not playing anywhere near like to the ability we know he can,” McCoist said. “But we’re probably all in agreement that it’s only a matter of time before that comes back.
“I don’t know if he has been effected by the lack of a move, he’s taking his time to get going again. But I would say A) he’ll be 100% committed. And B) it’s just a matter of time before he starts scoring goals again.”
Bent raises transfer concerns for Tottenham star
Bent, however, responded to McCoist by suggesting Kane still has his mind on a future away from Tottenham. Eurosport reported in August that the forward had said his goodbyes to players and staff at Spurs at the end of last season.
But Manchester City never met Levy’s £150m asking price, to leave Kane at a loss.

Bent replied: “In his mind he is thinking ‘right I’m not coming back to Spurs, I’m going to Manchester City, it’s just about getting the deal done, but am I going to be a Manchester City player so that I can go and focus’, so he looks like, to me, ‘100%, I’m going’.
“Now it’s not happened he just looks like this; how does he get out of this rut? Even the way he is moping around the pitch, he’s a little bit subdued. And it’s not like Harry Kane and obviously in the first-half [against Arsenal] where he made the mistake, at least he tried to avenge that mistake.”
