Thierry Henry has claimed that Harry Kane should be given ‘a lot of credit’ for his defensive work during Tottenham’s North London derby defeat on Sunday, as he told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports (27/09/21 at 7:35 pm).

The moment Henry’s talking is when Kane lost the ball on the edge of Arsenal’s area, sprinted back into his own box and tried his best to stop Bukayo Saka from scoring.

That unfortunate slip from Kane in the opposition’s final third, allowed the home team to hit Spurs on the counter, with the eventual goalscorer in oceans of space out on the right.

Kane was scrambling back in order to stop his fellow countryman from causing more damage, but an unfortunate deflection, allowed Saka to cut through Tottenham’s defence and score his side’s third goal of the game.

Henry shared that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were ‘too open’ during the game, but he praised Kane for his actions prior to Saka’s goal.

“I have to give Harry Kane a lot of credit,” said Henry. “He lost the ball, and as you know, when you lose the ball you want to come back to try and recover.

“Dier delays it, as much as he can (Arsenal’s counter for the third goal). Kane does ever so well to come back, but then, the rest is history.

“3-0 Arsenal. It was too open. They were too open. That’s not how you are supposed to play a derby. The game was too open in midfield.”

Whilst Henry saw the positives of that, from Tottenham’s perspective, it would be a surprise if Spurs fans agree.

At the end of the day, their star striker has looked well off the boil this season and the club’s current situation isn’t helping anyone.

It’s hard to find positives with Spurs, at the moment, and if they continue in their current ways then they are heading in one direction, and one direction only, and that’s sliding down the table.

The longer they continue to stumble, the longer Kane waits for that first league goal, the more toxic the atmosphere will become at Hotspur Way.
