Rangers fans have long disliked Scott Brown due to his Celtic affiliation, but even some of their fans have admitted their admiration for the legendary midfielder today.

After 14 years and 22 trophies, Brown quit Celtic this past summer to join Aberdeen.

And although he scored in this afternoon’s defeat by St Mirren, Rangers and Hoops fans are more impressed with his role in aiding his side’s second goal.

Christian Ramirez scored a fine thumping header to give the visitors a 2-1 lead, after the former Celtic general equalised earlier in the first half.

But replays on Sky Sports showed that Brown successfully blocked two opposition players to give Ramirez the free header.

At 36, they don’t come much more experienced than Broony and he used all of it to brilliant effect on this occasion.

And here’s how some fans of the Parkhead and Ibrox side reacted on Twitter:

It was the blend of sneakiness and cheekiness that Rangers fans loathed Brown for during his hugely-successful stint at Celtic.

There is an art to incidents like this and Brown was subtle enough to make it look accidental, even though it was a prime example of how wily and clever the former Scotland captain still is.

The only downside for the player is that he wound up on the losing side, so his goal and ‘assist’ will mean nothing tonight to a personality who feeds off winning and nothing else.
