Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports News (1:27pm, September 25, 2021) that he has changed his opinion on Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The former Arsenal star has been impressed by Ramsdale and has been stunned by how confident that the former Sheffield United goalkeeper is.

Merson has said that he was not sure about the 23-year-old initially, but the Sky Sports pundit has now changed his mind.

Ramsdale kept a clean sheet against Burnley last weekend, as Mikel Arteta’s side won the Premier League game 1-0.

Merson said on Sky Sports News (1:27pm, September 25, 2021): “I am not the biggest fan of Ramsdale, I am a bit critical of Ramsdale, but I was well impressed with him last week.

“The way he came out with the ball, the penalty call, he was positive with the tackle.”

The pundit added: “This goalie was absolutely outstanding the other day. He looks so confident, so so confident.”

Arsenal no. 1 now?

Bernd Leno is a very good goalkeeper, and we should not forget that he is still at Arsenal.

However, it does now look that Ramsdale is the first-choice goalkeeper for Arsenal.

The Englishman has kept clean sheets in the three competitive matches he played for Arsenal so far this season.

Ramsdale is good with his feet and is also very commanding inside his penalty area.

It will be interesting to see if Arteta decides to field Ramsdale in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur today, or if the Arsenal boss thinks that the more experienced Leno would be a better option.
