Mikel Arteta has suggested that Martin Odegaard is going to get a lot better for Arsenal, describing him as an ‘exceptional footballer’.

Arsenal re-signed the Norway magician on a permanent basis this past summer.

Odegaard impressed on a half-season loan in North London last term after joining from Real Madrid.

Last week, he demonstrated his class with a fine free kick in the 1-0 win away to Burnley.

And Arteta, speaking to The Guardian, thinks there may be a lot more to come from the 22-year-old playmaker.

He said: “He’s an exceptional footballer, he’s still young, he’s got a big gap to develop his game and his leadership skills as well. We are on the way to help him as much as possible to fulfil his potential which I think is really big.”

Bargain from Edu?

Arsenal’s head of football has pulled off some cracking deals during his two-year stint back in North London.

There’s been some questionable ones too, but indeed some gems – £6 million for Gabriel Martinelli, for example.

But Odegaard might well prove himself an unbelievable bargain, too.

These days, £30 million isn’t a lot of money and if Odegaard does the business for Arsenal over the next two or three years, they stand to make a massive profit.

The Gunners won’t be thinking about selling anytime soon, but Edu definitely does sign players with a re-sale value in mind and there’s no telling how much the Emirates Stadium side could make on the former Real maestro, should he develop as Arteta expects.
