The Billboard Latin Music Awards on September 23 saw Daddy Yankee receive the Hall of Fame honour. However, the singer’s speech left many speculating whether he was retiring from music soon.
From the VMAs to Billboard Latin Music Awards, it has been a great few weeks for music lovers.
During the BLMA 2021, the 45-year-old singer, who coined the term ‘reggaeton’ in 1994, was honoured for his decades of contribution to the genre.
While fans rejoiced at the singer’s latest accomplishment, the event also gave rise to speculation that the Si Supieras singer might be retiring.
Why fans think Daddy Yankee might be retiring
Graciously stepping on the stage to receive the honour, Daddy Yankee, whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, thanked his fans and family. The entire room gave him a standing ovation as he began his speech.
Speaking at the event, the ‘King of Reggaeton’ said, “Like you all know, I was 15 years old with big dreams when I started just like some of you maybe be right now. And, it took me three decades to understand that with discipline, wisdom and determination you can arrive at this moment.”
While the entire speech was meaningful and left fans feeling elated, many were dumbfounded when Daddy Yankee said, “Los invito a que, no se pierdan mi última ronda musical que, viene por ahí! Jefe!” towards the end.
Loosely translated to English, this means, “I invite you to not miss my last musical round that comes out there! Boss!”.
These lines had many fans thinking that the Peurto Rican singer, who has several ventures outside of the music industry, was planning on retiring.
It is important to note that Daddy Yankee is yet to confirm or deny these speculations. Hence, fans need to take his words from BLMA 2021 with a pinch of salt.

An emotional fan wrote that they had been listening to the artist’s music since their early years.
