Former Man City captain Vincent Kompany has shared his glee of fellow Belgian player Romeo Lavia making his debut for the Premier League champions.
In an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, the R.S.C. Anderlecht manager has admitted that he is pleased with the teenage midfielder finally making his first-team bow for City. Lavia started this week in the League Cup against Wycombe Wanderers.
The 17-year-old talent originally came through the ranks at Anderlecht before City signed him for their youth sides. And since the move, Lavia has flourished into one of the club’s most exciting talents.
The midfielder has often been likened to captain Fernandinho. Furthermore, Kompany believes that Lavia has a big future with Man City if he can continue to play first-team football this season.
The four-time Premier League champion said: “He picked up a lot and showed aggressive ball recovery and was also calm on the ball. You need that in that position. Lavia has what Pep Guardiola is looking for.
“Normally, as a young player, you only have one chance in a million to breakthrough immediately at Manchester City, but Lavia can make that happen. He’s such a rare player.”

Indeed, Kompany is a big fan of Lavia. And supporters were also blown away with how the youngster performed against Wycombe over the week.
Moreover, with Pep Guardiola being open to giving youth players regular first-team football, the midfielder could be the next talent from the City academy to break it into the senior squad permanently.
