Will Squid Game return for season 2? [Spoilers]

Squid Game has yet to be officially renewed for season 2 but the ending of episode 9 suggests that more could be on the way.

In the final episode of season 1, Gi-hun is able to win the Squid Game competition and the ₩45.6 billion prize money.

However, in a flash-forward to one year down the line, Gi-hun is still traumatised by the experience.

In the final moments of the episode, he encounters the same man who recruited him into the Squid Game and he takes the man’s card and calls the number.

Gi-hun was about to board a flight to Los Angeles to reunite with his daughter but after calling the number, he is left enraged and determined to find out who is behind the deadly game, suggesting that this story has only just begun.

However, speaking to Variety about a second season, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed: “I don’t have well-developed plans for ‘Squid Game 2.’ It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.”

Squid Game is available to stream now on Netflix after releasing on September 17th, 2021.
