Yuma Suzuki could still be an option for Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window, Sint-Truiden chairman David Meekers has told TVL Sport, via Voetbal Belgie.

Steve Cooper made the most of limited resources at Swansea City last season, dragging the club to a highly impressive fourth place despite his two first-choice strikers – Andre Ayew and Jamal Lowe – not really being strikers at all.

If Nottingham Forest are to drag themselves off the Championship canvas and into at least mid-table, they could do with Cooper weaving his managerial wand once more, sprinkling some tactical stardust over a squad that has scored just 45 goals in its past 54 league games.

However, while Chris Hughton’s successor will hope to coax some much-needed productivity out of the enigmatic Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor, the January transfer window offers an opportunity to strengthen a frequently misfiring front line.

Could Yuma Suzuki be the striker Nottingham Forest need?

Nottingham Forest made an approach for the free-scoring Yuma Suzuki before the September deadline.

And, although Sint-Triuden were reluctant to cash in with so little time to find a replacement, it could be a different story when the winter rolls around.

“Certain agreements have been made in the past and they will eventually come back on the table,” says Meekers, who recently admitted the Jupiler League outfit had suffered losses of more than £3 million during the covid crisis.

“We’ll have to wait and see whether (Suzuki will be sold) in the winter or the summer.”

According to Voetbal Belgie, Sint-Truiden want about £4 million for a man who scored 17 times last season and opened his account for the new campaign during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to perennial title challengers KRC Genk.

But Cooper be warned – Forest haven’t had an easy time when it comes to bringing in attacking reinforcements.

Croatia U21 international Sandro Kulenovic and M’Bala ‘Young Drogba’ Nzola both turned down summer moves to the City Ground.
