FIFA 22 is finally here but fans may be disappointed by its lack of crossplay as well as its cross-gen restrictions.

Football lovers and hooligans can enjoy the game this week by playing the EA Play early access trial. This allows all subscribers to enjoy 10-hours of unrestricted action for all modes including Ultimate Team, Manager Mode, and Volta.

It won’t fully launch without the time limit until September 27th or October 1st, but its lack of cross platform multiplayer will remain the same.

Is FIFA 22 crossplay?

There is no crossplay or cross platform multiplayer for FIFA 22.

Leaks suggest that cross platform multiplayer will be added to the next instalment, but this is by no means official. The same leak also says that FIFA 23 will be free-to-play but this hasn’t been confirmed either.

Seeing as there’s no crossplay for this year’s game, you will not be able to play across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. This is disappointing as it’s a feature that fans have been begging for over the past few years.

Can PS4 play with PS5 in FIFA 22?

PS4 players cannot play against FIFA 22 players on the PS5 version, and the same goes for Xbox One with Series X.

However, if a PS5 player owns the Ultimate edition bundle, they can download the PS4 version to play with last-gen mates. This is the same with Xbox One and Series X with the Dual Entitlement package costing £89.99.

There is no free upgrade to the next-gen version of the game. So, if you currently own a last-gen system but are planning to buy a next-gen console soon, you will probably want to purchase the Ultimate edition so you don’t have to buy the game again.

Cross-gen multiplayer

Cross-gen multiplayer is available only if those on PS5 and Xbox Series X play the PS4 and Xbox One version of the game.

As for why it’s not possible for PS4 players to match with those on the PS5 version, it’s because the two experiences are entirely different. Next-gen console versions boast hypermotion gameplay, whereas last-gen consoles and PC do not.
