Everton are out of the Carabao Cup after defeat to Queens Park Rangers – but Anthony Gordon showed some promise for the Toffees.
The Toffees fell behind at Loftus Road as Charlie Austin headed the hosts in front, only for Lucas Digne to equalise from a beautiful Andros Townsend pass.
Austin restored QPR’s lead, but Townsend scored from close range to pull Everton level again.
The game went to penalties, and Tom Davies was the only person to fail from the spot. His effort was saved by Seny Dieng, sending QPR through.
Anthony Gordon shows some promise
Once touted for big things, Anthony Gordon has somewhat lost some momentum at Everton.
A January loan move to Preston North End started well. Yet when Alex Neil was sacked and Frankie McAvoy played a 3-4-1-2 system, there was no space for Gordon to play.
Everton have chosen not to loan Gordon out again this season.
Gordon recorded four key passes against QPR, the most of any Everton player. Gordon also had two shots, one on target, and completed one dribble.

Everton fans react to Gordon display
Everton fans liked what they saw from Gordon, calling him ‘brilliant’ and ‘outstanding’.
Others believe that Gordon now needs to start in the Premier League this weekend.
There is a feeling that Gordon should play more and could be ideal under Rafael Benitez.
At just 20, there is still plenty of time for Gordon to kick on. After last night’s display, Everton fans hope his rise is imminent.
