Celtic summer target Aaron Hickey made history this week as the youngster bagged his first goal for Serie A side Bologna.

The 19-year-old defender starred for the Italian club in their 2-2 draw against Genoa, with Hickey opening the scoring with a fine strike 49 minutes in.

It was the first goal the fullback had scored for Bologna since arriving in 2020. And in doing so, Hickey broke a record that has stood in Italian football for over thirty years.

The defender’s strike was the first time a Scotsman has scored a goal in Serie A since Joe Jordan in 1986, 34 years ago. Indeed, it was a moment to savour for Hickey, who has impressed this season.

With Celtic heavily linked with Hickey over the summer, the Glasgow giants have seemingly missed out on a top Scottish talent who could now be out of their reach given his early success this season with Bologna.

And Hickey breaking a 34-year record with his goal this week could have big clubs around Europe keeping a close eye on the teenage Scotsman.

Yet on social media, Celtic fans were fuming that the club were unable to sign him this summer. Here’s what a few had to say about Hickey on Twitter…
