Apple has released its brand new software update iOS 15 and there are several updated features such as the Focus mode.

Following their iPhone 13 event last week, the company has made the iOS 15 system available for downloading.

Some of the new features include a faster Siri, redesigned Safari, SharePlay and hundreds of new emojis.

But one addition that many users are very excited about is the Focus status. So, what is the tool about and how do you use it?

What is Focus Status on iOS 15?

The Focus mode on iOS 15 is an updated version of Apple’s Do Not Disturb which gives more flexibility depending on the activities you are doing.

Users can use the feature to change to a ‘Sleep’ or ‘Work’ status and select what kind of notifications they would like to receive when using a particular mode.

Whether you are commuting to work, listening to music or working through a project, you are now able to filter the notifications you get.

The Focus status will help a lot of people to get less distracted when their phones are nearby.

How to use the feature

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use the Focus mode on your devices:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
  • Tap on ‘Focus’ which is above Screen Time
  • Once you are there, you’ll find four modes – Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Personal, and Work
  • ‘Share Across Devices’ is enabled by default and you can tap toggle to switch it off
  • Follow the instructions to filter the notifications you want to receive during a particular mode in the Focus status

Once you select which mode you want to go with, you have the option to allow who can call or text you during that mode and restrict some apps from sending you notifications.

You can easily remove or add contacts in ‘notifications from people’ as well as apps in ‘notifications from apps’.

If you want to share your Focus mode with someone, follow the instructions below:

  • Open the Messages app and select the contact you want to share your Focus mode with
  • Tap the person’s image at the top of the screen
  • Tap ‘Share Focus Status’
