Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has his fans inside Tottenham Hotspur – and Rio Ferdinand has joined in the admiration.

Rudiger scored Chelsea’s third goal in a thumping 3-0 win over London rivals Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

Often left out under Frank Lampard, Rudiger has been a mainstay of the Chelsea side under Thomas Tuchel.

The German has started the season in brilliant form and is now receiving the plaudits for his displays.

Rio Ferdinand raves about Rudiger

Rudiger and Chelsea have conceded just once in the Premier League this season – and that came from a penalty against Liverpool.

Rio Ferdinand has now told FIVE that he actually thinks Rudiger has been the best centre back in the Premier League since Tuchel’s arrival at Chelsea.

Ferdinand thinks Manchester City star Ruben Dias is the only defender to really come close to Rudiger.

Ferdinand added that Rudiger will have found it difficult to perform under Frank Lampard, but is now showing just how good he really is under Tuchel.

“Since Tuchel has come I think he’s been arguably the best centre-back,” said Ferdinand. “I think Dias would have run him close, him and Dias, but the effect he has had on his team has been immense.

“Under Frank [Lampard], it was evident he wasn’t Frank’s cup of tea. Frank didn’t really like him. There was rumours there were trying to put him in the market to be sold. In Germany, he’s always been highly thought of, but when the manager doesn’t rate you and you can feel that, I don’t care who you are, your confidence takes a beating and it’s then hard to perform at your level,” he added.

Tottenham surely have no chance of signing Rudiger

Rudiger is out of contract at the end of the season, and Chelsea have yet to make progress on a new deal.

90Min claim that Tottenham still admire Rudiger after he rejected a move there last year.

The 28-year-old would be some addition to the Tottenham back line, but there is surely no way he joins.

Rudiger rejected Tottenham when he was out of the Chelsea team. Now he’s starring, why would he go to Spurs?

If Rudiger becomes a free agent, he will have bigger offers on the table than Tottenham.

The window of opportunity for Tottenham to sign Rudiger appears to have gone, especially now he’s being likened to Dias.
