Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber – and he is earning huge plaudits over in the Netherlands.

Tottenham did sign a new defender over the summer as Cristian Romero arrived from Atalanta.

His long-term partner isn’t yet known. Eric Dier has that position now, but Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon will hope to break in.

There is a real chance that Tottenham move for another centre back in 2022, and Timber is thought to be a target.

Tottenham’s interest in Timber

90Min reported earlier this month that both Tottenham and Chelsea are keeping ‘very close tabs’ on Timber.

The 20-year-old has allegedly been on Tottenham’s radar for two years.

Both Chelsea and Tottenham see Timber as being similar to William Gallas, according to this report.

Capable of playing at centre back or right back, you can kind of understand that likeness.

Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon, Monaco, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also thought to be keen.

Timber shining for Ajax

Timber lined up at centre back as Ajax played Cambuur in the Eredivisie on Saturday.

The youngster opened the scoring for Ajax, setting them on their way to a stunning 9-0 win.

Timber picked up the ball in defence, raced forward through the middle of the pitch before firing home a Steven Berghuis pass.

David Neres may have scored twice, but Timber was named ‘King of the Match’.

Ajax accompanied the photo of Timber receiving his award with the message ‘he’s just something else’.

Tottenham surely saw Timber’s fantastic display, and Fabio Paratici may well be even more interested now.
