Anthony Martial’s pricy Manchester United salary could course a stumbling block if he pushes for an exit next year.

According to Eurosport, United have given the all-clear for Martial to pack his bags and depart Old Trafford in January.

The Frenchman is seemingly no longer part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s immediate plans, having started just once this term.

Even without the presence of Marcus Rashford or Daniel James to contend with, Monaco’s former pupil is currently not part of the equation.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that the Old Trafford chain of command are willing to let the 25-year-old leave in the next transfer window.

However, it might not be so easy to remove Martial from the roster.

Hurdles for Anthony

Eurosport say his £250,000-a-week wages are likely to be a turn-off for potential suitors.

They also suggest United are aiming to sell the attacker for around £40m.

This would earn the Red Devils a £4m profit from the original £36m (BBC) fee forked out for the forward in 2015.

Again, this may be viewed as an unreasonable figure for a player, who last scored a club goal back in February.

Injury concerns could also ward off possible buyers.

He missed a large chunk of last season thanks to a ruptured knee ligament and he hasn’t quite looked the same since.

Despite United’s stance, Eurosport state Martial still has ambitions of staking a regular claim in the side.

Yet, his aspirations will understandably diminish if he is continuously overlooked by the manager.

Thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s return, Mason Greenwood’s form and the need to get Jadon Sancho firing, Martial might be waiting a little while longer for his opening.
