Some Arsenal fans on Twitter think that manager Mikel Arteta has made Granit Xhaka his vice-captain after the Gunners posted their official first-team squad photo today.
What’s the story?
Earlier today, Arsenal posted a full first-team squad photo on their official website and Twitter page.
The photo was taken at London Colney this week and was released today.
As you can see from the photo below, star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was sitting on the right of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Arteta has Switzerland international midfielder Xhaka on his left.
What are Arsenal fans saying?
As you can see from the tweets below, some Arsenal fans think that Xhaka’s position in the official squad photo suggests that he is the vice-captain of the team now.
According to Football.London, Hector Bellerin was the vice-captain at Arsenal before the Spanish full-back left for Real Betis on loan in the summer transfer window.
Xhaka was actually the Arsenal captain for the first two games of the season against Brentford and Chelsea when Gabon international striker Aubameyang was absent.
Arteta has yet to officially make an announcement on who his new vice-captain is.
Perhaps the Arsenal boss will do that soon.
Xhaka has made three appearances in the Premier League so far this season and made 29 starts in the league in 2020-21.
