Everton made a move for Donny van de Beek in August, and Don Hutchison now thinks the midfielder really needs to think about leaving Manchester United.

Van de Beek joined United for a huge £40million in 2020, having excelled in the Ajax midfield.

The Dutchman has found first-team football hard to come by at United though. He started just four Premier League games last season.

Van de Beek has only been given five minutes of league action this term, and was hooked at half time against Basel last week.

Everton’s attempt for Van de Beek

Algemeen Dagblad in the Netherlands reported that Everton made a move for Van de Beek. Sadly for Everton, the Red Devils said no.

Fabrizio Romano added that Everton were ‘really close’ to signing Van de Beek, with an agreement in place on Van de Beek’s end.

Van de Beek himself has commented on the Everton rumours.

He told Rio Ferdinand that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made it clear he was wanted at Old Trafford.

No deal was done, but with little playing time since then, Van de Beek may wish he had pushed for the move to Merseyside.

Hutchison comments on Van de Beek

Pundit Don Hutchison – formerly of Everton himself – has now commented on Van de Beek’s situation.

Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live’s Monday Night Club, Hutchison suggested that Van de Beek needs to speak to his agent.

Hutchison feels Van de Beek needs to move on from United, just weeks after his Everton move collapsed.

“I think if you’re Donny van de Beek now, you’ve got to have the conversation with your agent, who’s then gonna have the conversation with the manager, chief executive because you’ve got a World Cup coming up in 18 months time,” said Hutchison.

“He cannot afford just to be sitting on that bench, playing in the League Cup midweeks and playing odd minutes and getting brought on and getting taken off. If I’m gonna Donny van de Beek I need to move on from Manchester United,” he added.
