Liverpool fans have reacted Twitter to the confirmed news that Curtis Jones will start against Norwich City in the League Cup on Tuesday tonight.

Pep Lijnders was the man tasked to take Liverpool’s press conference ahead of tonight’s fixture.

And he stated that ‘Curtis Jones will start the game. His 50th game for the club.”, as he told his pre-match press conference.

Liverpool are delighted at what they are hearing from the AXA training centre because they are looking forward to watching Jones playing.

Injuries and the form of those in front of the attack-minded midfielder have resulted in his game time being limited at the start of this campaign.

But the fans will now get to see him work his magic once more and he could possibly stake a claim to Jurgen Klopp that he deserves a place in the XI.

Thiago Alcantara is sidelined and Harvey Elliott is going to be out for a long period, so there are places up for grabs in that Liverpool midfield.

What has also shocked the Liverpool supporters is that their academy product is set to play his 50th game for his club.

That penalty shootout win against Arsenal in the League Cup and that long-range goal against Everton don’t seem too long ago.

But whilst that was Jones bursting onto the scene, it’s now time for him to put his cards on the table and prove that he is worthy of keeping his place in the XI on a more regular basis.

And, as Klopp has proven before, if he does then there’s no reason why he shouldn’t get his place in that XI on a more regular basis.

Even with Gini Wijnaldum’s departure this summer, the midfield at Anfield is jam-packed, with Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Thiago, James Milner, Elliott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita fighting for those spots before a ball was kicked this term.
