BTS SDG Moment 2021 speech and performance made every fan say, ‘Our pride BTS.’ The speech of hope brought ARMY Twitter to a standstill as they collectively witnessed history being made by the first K-pop band who got to represent their country as the Presidential Envoy at UNGA 2021.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in introduced the Grammy-nominated K-pop act as ‘exceptionally outstanding men’ who will tell the stories of our youth and how they spent the last two years.
Namjoon aka RM started the speech as the leader of the group and Jin, Suga, Jhope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook took turns in delivering the historical speech. The group concluded their SDG Moment 2021 appearance with a joyful performance of ‘Permission To Dance,’ produced at the United Nations.

BTS represented snapshots from ‘Youth Today, Your Stories‘ campaign that they initiated to tell the stories of the youth at the UNGA 2021. Jin showed the pictures saying, ‘you can feel the good vibes just by looking at them.’
“Let’s live on, let’s make the best of the moment“
Speaking of the last two years, Jin admitted, “There were times during the past two years when I too felt bewildered and troubled, but still, we had people who cried out “let’s live on, let’s make the best of this moment!”
“We are in the ideal time of our lives to take on new challenges“
Jimin continues the speech sharing, “We are in the ideal time of our lives to take on new challenges. It wasn’t as if you could blame anyone. You must have felt the frustration… the world changed like if we were transported in a flash to a parallel one.”
The young generation is looking for the tough answers to Climate change
Jhope addressed the issue of climate change saying, “Everyone agrees that #ClimateChange is an important problem but talking about the best solution might be, that’s not easy. It’s a topic that is tough to make conclusions about!”
RM adds, “I learned that there are many young people interested in environmental issues and choose it as their field of study. The future is unexplored territory, and that’s where we more than anyone will spend our time. And they are searching for the answers.”
“There are still many pages left in the story about us”
Kim Taehyung aka BTS V is optimistic about the future. The 25-year-old ‘Blue and Grey’ crooner said, “I hope we just don’t consider the future as grim darkness. We have people concerned for the world and searching for answers. There are still many pages left in the story about us and I feel like we shouldn’t talk like the ending has already been written.”
Jungkook says, just like the rest of the world, they also felt ‘stuck’ in place
Jungkook, the 24-year-old vocalist of BTS said, “Sometimes it feels like the world is stuck in place. It feels like if you’ve lost your way. There was a time when we felt the same way.”
The group concluded the speech saying, “Instead of the lost generation, a more appropriate name would be the welcome generation because instead of fearing change, this generation says “welcome” and keeps pushing ahead!”
Namjoon conveyed, “If we believe in possibilities and hope, even when the unexpected happens we won’t lose our way, but discover a new one.”
‘Permission To Dance’ at United Nations by BTS brought tears to ARMY
Along with the moving speech, BTS performed ‘Permission To Dance’ at the United Nations and ARMY couldn’t hold back tears any longer. A fan gushed, “the way I suddenly burst into tears when I saw the people gathering around to dance together with BTS. for once, it felt like everything went back to normal.”
A second fan shared, “I cried tears of hope and joy this morning.. hearing their inspirational and impactful messages and watching them perform from the UNGA. They are truly exceptional young men using their voice and doing so much good.”
