Ravel Morrison has reacted on his Instagram story to Jesse Lingard scoring the winning goal for Manchester United against West Ham on Sunday.
Just like the thriving England international, Morrison has also donned both Manchester United and West Ham colours during his playing days – he’s now at the financially-doomed Derby County playing under Wayne Rooney.
Nonetheless, when Lingard returned to the London Stadium with a bang yesterday, this is what his former teammate posted on his IG story.
Morrison is stating that Lingard always delivers, in regards to his ‘postman’ reference, because he has been doing just that, for West Ham, Man United and England during this game-changing calendar year.
It’s what has re-ignited his career at Old Trafford, his chances of going to the World Cup in Qatar next year and playing his part in West Ham getting into Europe.
Whilst Lingard won’t be kicking a ball in the Europa League for the Hammers, his goals were crucial in David Moyes’s side being in the positions they find themselves today.
When he was introduced into the action yesterday, the home fans gave him a warm reception, but that mood would have quickly changed when he curled his effort into the top corner with minutes left on the clock.
That moment was enough to fill the back pages, but then the Hammers were awarded a penalty in stoppage-time, only for Mark Noble to come off the bench and see his spot-kick saved by David de Gea.
Perhaps David Moyes didn’t learn from Gareth Southgate’s mistake in the summer when he brought on Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho in the Euro 2020 final – we all know how that ended up.
It was a heartbreaking ending for West Ham, but after five league games, the supporters would have taken eight points, including an opening win in Europe in midweek.
It also needs to be remembered that a certain Michail Antonio was missing, and in his form, he would have probably taken a few of the chances they produced on the break in the first half.
