Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has told the club’s official website that new signing Takehiro Tomiyasu was ‘really terrific’ against Burnley.

The Gunners made the trip north on Saturday having beaten Norwich City 1-0 in their previous game.

The old chant goes ‘one-nil to the Arsenal’, and so it was again; Martin Odegaard’s first-half free kick was enough to give Arsenal the win.

Arsenal stood firm to keep Burnley at bay, keeping a second straight clean sheet.

Tomiyasu enjoys another strong game

That means Arsenal have kept two clean sheets in a row since adding Takehiro Tomiyasu to their back line.

The Japanese star joined Arsenal from Bologna on deadline day and is already making a big impact.

Tomiyasu recorded five clearances, three aerial duels and one interception having started at right back.

Tomiyasu brings added stability at the back, and whilst he may not be as adventurous going forward as many modern-day full backs, he is certainly helping Arsenal.

Arteta reacts to Tomiyasu’s Arsenal debut

Arsenal boss Arteta offered a reaction to Tomiyasu’s performance, clubbing him together with fellow defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

Arteta only needed two words to describe their performances – ‘really terrific’.

Arteta would later praise the whole back four and the way they dealt with Burnley’s attacks.

It does though seem that Tomiyasu and Gabriel stole the show in Arteta’s eyes, and long may these clean sheets continue.

“Both of them, I think they were really terrific,” said Arteta. “I think the back four in general was really solid. We didn’t concede much, even though they put us under pressure. I thought they were really good,” he added.
