Manchester City were held to a 0-0 draw against Southampton following a rich vein of goalscoring form in both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
The English champions were restricted to just a single shot on target against the Saints as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side kept City at bay for the majority of the match.
The result will no doubt be a huge blow for Pep Guardiola’s squad, with Liverpool also winning on the day and Manchester United and Chelsea both playing later this afternoon.
Whilst City remains second in the standings following the draw against Southampton, that could all change later this weekend if results don’t go their way.
Indeed, it was a huge blow to the reigning Premier League champions. Especially since City had scored 16 goals in the past three games at the Etihad Stadium.
Yet supporters on social media were supportive of Raheem Sterling, who took to Twitter after the game to vent his disappointment with the result. The England star said it was a ‘frustrating’ afternoon for City.

Despite the poor performance from City against Southampton, fans were eager to show their support for Sterling, who has struggled in the opening games of the new season.
Here’s what some fans had to say on Twitter about Sterling’s social media post…
