John Challis is known to many as “Boycie” from Only Fools and Horses. The beloved BBC sitcom ran from 1981 to 2003 and featured much-loved characters such as Del Boy, Rodney and Trigger.

On September 19th, 2021, John Challis sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Carol.

Who was John Challis?

John Challis was an English actor best known for playing the character of car dealer Terrance Aubrey “Boycie” Boyce in Only Fools and Horses.

He more recently played Monty Staines in Benidorm.

John was born in Bristol on August 16th, 1942. He passed away on September 19th, 2021 and was 79 years old when he died.

A statement posted by John’s family read: “Our dear friend and yours, John Challis, has died peacefully in his sleep, after a long battle with cancer.

John leaves behind his fourth wife, Carol. He and Carol married in 1995 and had been together 26 years until his death.

He was married three times prior. His first marriage was to Jean Robertson in 1966, he later wed Debbie Arnold in 1981 but divorced in 1985. John was married to Sabina Franklyn for a year from 1987 to 1988.

He and his wife, Carol, lived together in Herefordshire as per a 2018 report.

Did John have children?

No, John didn’t have any children in his life.

Speaking to The Guardian in 2011, John said: “And having children sort of passed me by too. I’m married to Carol now, my fourth wife, and you suddenly find yourself with a woman you wouldn’t have minded having children with and it’s too late. I don’t know how I missed it.”

He added that he’d liked to have had a daughter and thought that he and Carol would’ve been good parents.
