Chelsea attacking midfielder Kai Havertz has said on Sky Sports News (1:43pm, September 18, 2021) that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been the best teams in the Premier League for the past two seasons.

City won the Premier League title last season, while Liverpool were the champions of England the year before.

Chelsea are aiming to win the title this time around, but the Blues will face still competition from Liverpool, City and Manchester United.

Havertz – who cost the Blues £71 million last summer, according to BBC Sport – has said that although Chelsea are aiming to win the Premier League title, the London club have to admit that Liverpool and City are unbelievable and have been the best teams in the Premier League for the past two seasons.

The Chelsea star said on Sky Sports News (1:43pm, September 18, 2021), as transcribed by SI: “The last couple of years in the league, Man City and Liverpool, they have always been the best.

“Just because you win the Champions League you cannot say ‘Oh this year we have to win it’ but of course we have the quality, we have the players to win the league but it’s not about saying after the fourth game in the league. Now, it’s too early to say it.

“We also said before that we are a little bit more like the hunters of Man City and Liverpool because they’ve showed in the last couple of years that they are unbelievable and we want to show that ourselves.

“We want to prove it ourselves again after the Champions League title. We will try our best.”

Exciting title race

Liverpool, City, United and Chelsea all have started the season strongly.

They all have strong teams, and there is a very good chance that the race for the Premier League title this season will go down to the wire.

Chelsea have a world-class striker in Romelu Lukaku, and that will edge them closer to Liverpool and City.

Liverpool had injury problems last season, but manager Jurgen Klopp now has the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip available.
